All About Me and My Music

Hello, my name is Nirro. Yes, that's my real name. It's my father's name backward; I'll let you figure that out yourself. I previously attended Limestone, and now I'm here. Round of applause. 👏👏👏 I'm currently a junior, and my major is music ed. My primary instrument is voice (soprano, though I really want to be an alto). I decided on my major relatively late; in middle and high school, I think I changed what I wanted to do about seven times. In 11th grade, I decided that I wanted to be a teacher, and in my final year of high school, I decided to pursue a career as a music teacher.

I really like almost all music; I'm down to give everything at least one or two listens. My favorite genre to sing is either jazz, pop, or R&B (I sing classical because I have to). While picking music to include in the post, it was almost impossible to find a song that I disliked because I can usually see what people might enjoy about a song, even if I don't fully enjoy it.  Here is a picture of my best friend and me at Breezy Bowl last year. We both really like Chris Brown as an artist.

My music playlist is all over the place, and I usually listen to music in phases. If I have a song I really like, I'll play it on repeat for a few days until I either get sick of it or it gets replaced with some other song. I decided to include my top song replayed for December.  I replayed this song, according to Apple Music, 73 times in the month of December. I truly appreciate smooth songs, and the vocals on this song are mwah 😙.  I have no word for how pleasing the vocals on this song are.

For my walk-up song, I chose a song that I just treasure. I would walk up around at 0:58. The vocals in the song are so captivating, and I love how the melody is unpredictable and goes places that no one would expect it to.  I also adore the artist; she has a really sweet voice that also has so much diversity in every song she puts out (plus she was the Little Mermaid). The lyrics to the song are also deep and in tune with what many people may be going through. The opening verse gives a mysterious feeling, but I love it. As a vocalist, I also enjoy the fact that you can hear the singer really trying to give it their all rather than singing something lower or taking a high section out.

This song here, I really tried to like it because I genuinely like the artist and other songs they have put out before. I think I listened to it about 5 times in hopes that I would eventually like it or find a section of it to be an earworm. My main problem with this song is that the beat doesn't completely go with the vocals. It sounds like she wrote a song and then was given a beat, and now Tems is trying to make them work together. The vocals by themselves are good, and the beat alone is good, but together, they just don't accomplish anything for me.

  1. Hi Nirro! It was really fun to read your blog and get to understand your music taste a little more. That first song that you had was really good, I wasn;t honestly sure what to expect when I clicked play but I really ended up enjoying it. I may have to add that to my playlist :) Also I totally understand what you mean when you say that you listen to your music in phases. I do that all the time and right now I'm back in my rock phase 😊. I can'y wait to hear your thoughts about other things in the future!

  2. Hi Nirro, Limestone forevorrrr!!!! I enjoyed reading your blog post and thought your music choices were really interesting as I had not heard any of the songs you posted. I can really see what you were talking about with the last song. It feels like the vocals and the instrumentals have very little blend togethor.

  4. Hiii Nirro!!! I also am a jazz, pop, and R&B lover too 😋. I grew up listening to Chloe x Halle b/c of my older sisters. They are such talented artists with an amazing blend between each other. Halle specifically really has such a sweet, gentle tone to her voice. I loved seeing her play Ariel in the live action "Little Mermaid." 🧜🏾‍♀️💗

  5. Heyyy Nirro! First of all, that is so cool to me that your name is your Dad's name spelled backwards, I love that.
Also, I love your choice of walk-up song. I can totally see that! Also, Halle is such an amazing singer.
